Reel to Real: Using Adlerian Play Therapy to Conceptualize ‘The Goonies’ (Part One)

This experiential Adlerian Play Therapy training is designed to help clinicians strengthen their conceptualization skills through lecture, discussion, and experiential learning. Using “The Goonies” as a shared reference point, participants will review core Adlerian Play Therapy concepts and increase their ability to recognize lifestyle patterns, goals of behavior, mistaken beliefs, family atmosphere, and relational dynamics through an Adlerian lens.

Description

This experiential Adlerian Play Therapy training is designed to help clinicians strengthen their conceptualization skills by increasing their ability to recognize Adlerian themes as they unfold within relationships, behaviors, family systems, and social interactions. Using “The Goonies” as a shared experiential learning tool, participants will explore how Adlerian concepts can move beyond theory and become more visible, practical, and clinically meaningful.

During this training, participants will engage in an Adlerian Play Therapy refresher focused on conceptualization and clinical thinking. Through lecture and discussion, clinicians will review foundational Adlerian concepts including life tasks, personality priorities, Crucial Cs, goals of misbehavior, family atmosphere, mistaken beliefs, private logic, and lifestyle convictions. Participants will also explore how Adlerian themes emerge through storytelling, peer relationships, family interactions, and social belonging.

This training is designed to strengthen clinicians’ ability to “see” Adlerian concepts more clearly within client presentation, relational dynamics, and play therapy treatment planning while preparing participants for experiential conceptualization application.
