Reel to Real: Using Adlerian Play Therapy to Conceptualize ‘The Goonies’ (Part Two)

This experiential Adlerian Play Therapy training is designed to help clinicians strengthen their conceptualization skills through lecture, discussion, and experiential learning. Using “The Goonies” as a shared reference point, participants will review core Adlerian Play Therapy concepts and increase their ability to recognize lifestyle patterns, goals of behavior, mistaken beliefs, family atmosphere, and relational dynamics through an Adlerian lens.

Description

This experiential Adlerian Play Therapy training is designed to help clinicians strengthen their conceptualization and treatment planning skills through collaborative discussion and experiential film analysis. Using “The Goonies” as a shared case study, participants will collaboratively conceptualize characters, relationships, and family dynamics through the lens of Adlerian Play Therapy.

Together, the group will examine themes of belonging, significance, discouragement, inferiority, social interest, peer dynamics, and family atmosphere while practicing Adlerian clinical thinking in an engaging and memorable format. Participants will conceptualize character behaviors and relational patterns as though the movie characters were clients entering the playroom.

Clinicians will also discuss potential treatment goals, Adlerian Play Therapy interventions, encouragement strategies, parent consultation considerations, and possible play themes that may emerge within therapy. This training is designed to increase clinicians’ confidence in translating Adlerian theory into practical, developmentally responsive treatment planning and intervention selection.

While participation in Part 1 may provide helpful foundational review, this training may also be attended as a standalone experiential conceptualization course.
