Description
Art has long been recognized as a powerful tool for expression, communication, and healing in therapeutic settings. In Adlerian play therapy, art offers a unique window into clients’ lifestyles, goals, and private logic. This hands-on workshop will equip play therapists with the knowledge and skills to meaningfully incorporate a variety of art techniques into their Adlerian play therapy practice. Participants will explore the developmental stages of their play therapy clients’ artistic expression, from scribbling to representational drawing. The workshop will provide an in-depth exploration of various art mediums—including crayons, markers, paint, clay, collage, construction paper, and mixed media—and how each medium can elicit different responses and expressions from play therapy clients. Participants will learn which media are best suited for specific therapeutic goals, age groups, and presenting concerns. Central to this training is learning how to use art techniques as a tool for lifestyle assessment. Through art, play therapy client reveal their perceptions of themselves, their families, and their place in the world. Attendees will engage in experiential activities and practical application exercises to build confidence in using art with their play therapy clients. By the end of this workshop, participants will understand how to integrate art into Adlerian play therapy to deepen their understanding of clients and enhance therapeutic outcomes.
