Learn ways to apply Adlerian principles to the sand tray play therapy process with clients of all ages!
In this online class, you learn the fundamentals of sand tray play therapy, the basics of Adlerian theory, and a variety of methods for combining the two. We will explore how to use sand trays to (a) build a relationship with clients; (b) explore clients’ lifestyle patterns; (c) help clients gain insight into their patterns; and (d) make changes in their thoughts, feelings, attitudes, behaviors, and relationships. You will learn how to use Adlerian concepts to help you develop an understanding of clients and build treatment plans for those clients. You will also learn sand tray strategies for consulting with parents and teachers. Built into this workshop is the opportunity to do a personal sand tray every day, serve as a witness and facilitator with a partner’s sand trays, and do sand trays with volunteer "clients." For the "personal tray" portion of the class, you will need to provide your own sand tray--you can use a fancy wooden sand tray if you have one, and if you don't, you can just use a Rubber Made tub that is approximately 20" by 14" and at least 3" deep. You will need to have enough sand to cover the bottom of the tub (about 1 inch deep)--hypo-allergenic sand is best. You will also need a supply of sand tray figures. If you need information on where to get a "basic" kit for sand tray, please contact the instructor for suggestions of where to get them. We will be providing children for the experiential work with "clients," and you will be doing your sessions via a telehealth format--the children will be in a setting with sand trays and sand tray figures, so you can just relax, create a safe psychological container for them to do their sand trays and help the children process their trays. We will even photograph the children's trays and share the photographs with the class so we can use their trays to practice understanding the meaning of the trays.
